If you’ve heard of Pearl or Java, you sort of know what Python is: A programming-language that dates back to the late 1980s. It was conceived by the Dutch programmer Guido von Rossum who is still involved in the process of development today. The name is based on Monty Python’s Flying Circus, by the way, not on the animal, because it is supposed to be fun to use. That is reflected, for example, in the general purpose, high-level programming language which makes it easy to read and maintain even large programs. It is also pretty open and supports several styles from object-oriented through structured and functional to aspect-oriented programming.
